Dev Log 1: Prototype

- Throughout the making of this prototype I had to reference my concept document quite a bit.It helped me a lot with to remind me of the plot especially since this is a mainly narrative game. I was thinking of all of the world building and how to convey different story beats to the player. This was really difficult and not something I had thought about it was something I kind of overlooked when thinking of the game but the concept document proved to be extremely useful. I had already programmed a lot of the mechanics so I focused on a vertical slice of the story and the type of interactions you would have with the NPC's. Since most of my mechanics where implemented already the mechanics I did program where kind of secondary. I added a password screen to the computers I think this was a great decision it not only helped my central mechanic since the password added complexity to the time management. It also helped with story beats adding another way for the player to see info through computers of NPC but you need to figure out their passwords. As I said previously I had not considered the moment to moment narrative. This was something I completely overlooked when planning this prototype I thought it was something I could leave to the end but since my game is narrative-focused this is a very important part of the game. The puzzles and more specifically the pacing of the narrative I kind of defaulted to giving the player a story beat per puzzle. I don't think this is especially bad since they are not one after the other you can do any at all times. However, I would like to switch up the puzzle - story rewards in the future. Making the project in Godot is something that I enjoy a lot I am really comfortable in the engine and can program fast and implement features fast. For this prototype I only used Godot since most of the features are already implemented. However I plan to use Miro for dialogue in the future since it helps me visualize the progression of dialogue better than just in Godot. I am aware of a few bugs in the prototype that need fixing like spamming interact with the computer glitches it out and the dialogue. They don't seem to be hard fixes though. The main problem was the underestimating the work the moment to moment narrative and puzzles.
